Wedding Wednesdays: Be Mine

Believe it or not, I looked long and hard for a Valentine's Day wedding that I loved (heck, even liked), and I found nothing! This one is pretty darn close. It's safe to say I love it.

First, how sweet are these red heart Valentine invitations? They even used an Ampersand!

Next, this reception venue is absolutely amazing. I would kill to have my reception dinner over looking New York City. Not only that, but I love the little heart garlands strung over all the chairs.

It looks like the Bride and Groom took an impromptu trip to the Shake Shack for a little treat, made for some fun photos.

There definitely doesn't appear to be a shortage of sweet treats at the reception either.

I really had a hard time narrowing down my favorites out of all of Carla Ten Eyck's incredible photos, here's my remaining favorites.

Growing up, every year my mom and I would bake Valentine sandwich cookies. I wish I could find a picture...
This year I decided to attempt them with the almond flour and coconut oil my parents sent me. I used this recipe which was super easy and pretty tasty.

They're no where near as pretty as the usual ones mom and I would make, but they're a lot better for you. Something about the almond flour makes them turn out dark, as I can assure you they are not actually burnt. 

I also used the oven method for making some hard boiled eggs and had an excuse to use my pretty egg holder. 

Fashion Friday: Valentine's Outfits

Considering Valentine's Day is my favorite, I always go all out with the outfit. It's the one day a year I feel comfortable mixing pink and red, definitely have to take advantage of that!

I already have my Valentine's day outfit for this year planned, but I l-o-v-e these cute red and pink ensembles. Especially this first one.

Valentine's day is my favorite. I just love it all; pink, red, hearts, glitter, cheesecake, flowers, love...I love it!

I love this photo shoot. It's Valentine's without the cheese. Sweet and pretty, like it should be.

Off the Grid

Ever since seeing Children of Men (fantastic movie by the way!), and a lot of zombie movies/ shows, I've been thinking having a house hidden and off the grid would be a fantastic idea!
Somewhere where you can sustain yourself for a long period of time and that is hard to find. You know, solar and wind power, wood burning stove, lots of food, a well for water....somewhere safe.

I wouldn't live there full time, just in case of some catastrophic emergency.

While I'm not sure if the location of this house is far enough out, or technically off any "grids", it is made of recycled and sustainable materials and for a "shed" it's awfully nice looking. I love all the windows and use of scrap metal.

Sunday Sketches: This is New York

My obsession with alliteration knows no bounds, so maybe it's time to do something special on Sundays. I'll give it a try.

Miroslav Sasek was an amazing illustrator and author of the This is... children's book series. They were originally published back in the 60's but were reissued in 2003.

I always see them online at places like Anthropologie or my favorite blogs, and consider buying them for my nieces. I've never actually peeked inside one though, until today.
Here are some pages from This is New York. I am absolutely in love with it and will be buying a copy or two the next time a Birthday rolls around.

Aren't the retro illustrations beautiful? I could see designing a nursery based on them.
I plan on buying some of his other books, you can look forward to me blogging about them.
