Dreaming

We need a new headboard,  we're getting a new headboard. We just need to decide which one. Our goal is an upholstered headboard for under $300. Overstock had a few we really liked in the top end of our price range but I'm also considering getting a cheap wooden one off craigslist and doing it myself. Hmm...
(sorry the picture quality is so crappy for some reason)

Those 3 are from Overstock and all on the higher end of  our price range.
This would be my dream one. Like, the one I'm dying to have but don't have $600 for. Why Urban Outfitters, why?! Anyone want to buy it for us?
 Love the pattern!
If I DIY I'll be choosing a fabric similar to this
Love the shape and nailhead

Young House Love, Love

Young House Love is one of my absolutely favorite blogs and in the great blogging slump of late 2011, I stopped following the Petersiks. Well, today I remedied that and read 30 (yes, 30!) pages of back posts from them and got all caught up. As usual, they've left me feeling incredibly inspired and motivated to decorate our new place.
YHL is actually one of the biggest inspirations I had for starting this blog. I figured if 2 people (not much older than me) could design impeccably, why couldn't I? I've never met them but with their bare-all/share-all approach I feel a bit like they're my super handy, enviable, next door neighbors (I wish!).
Just as they've inspired me to blog, do a photo gallery, and many other things, they've inspired me become a little more hands on with my blogging. This means as we move into our new apartment and I begin to decorate and organize our new space I want to share the changes I'm making and ultimately translate my inspirations and favorite photos into my realities.
Alright, I know, this post is a little mushy and odd. I'm going to blame that on my brain being fried from a full day of work, a Boston Bruins loss, and 30 (do you realize how much this is?!) pages of reading.
Go check out YHL, get lost in the amazingness, and get back to me when you're all caught up.

Monday (not so) Links 1.16

Sorry to disappoint but I haven't anything bookmarked on the ole (new!) Mac other than Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter. Clearly I've only had enough time for social networking.

As much as I love those black walls from yesterday (and I really, really do!) I enjoy a good punch of color. At this point, in my cheap home decorating style, I'm not brave enough to do colored furniture but if I could, I would. These bold pieces of furniture really make a statement. They give the room a good unique, quirky vibe, not something you'd see in a furniture store room, which is always a plus.

Paint it black!

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but I absolutely love black walls. Now, it may seem like a bold or crazy choice but I actually find the black to be very classic, clean, and almost calming in a way. I think it gives the space a more minimalistic, loft feel which I adore.

I've crossed to the dark side.

I'm now a Mac user. I've always used PC's and have been so anti mac but when my dad showed off his new computer a few months ago I've had the fever. Well, lucky girl that I am I just happened to get a shiny new MacBook Pro for Christmas! So far, I've been loving it. I definitely have a lot of learning to do but I'm convinced, Macs are just better. This also explains a bit of my lack of photos on the blog lately. I haven't transferred information from my old pc over yet and I hate to admit this but...I don't exactly know how to save photos from the internet on here. Anyone want to fill me in? In the mean time, you can check out giddy me with my new love:

Fail

One week into the New Year and I've already failed my blogging resolution, oops! In my defense, I've been incredibly busy. We've been looking for a new apartment and the stressful, tedious project has kept me incredibly occupied. I go to work, think of apartments and moving, come home and look up apartments, then go look at apartments. The good news is, we think we've found one! We will know for sure on Tuesday.
As stressful as the whole moving thing is it's pretty exciting. I always love dreaming up how to decorate a new place and where to put things. That being said, I'm hoping if we've found a place I'll have a little more time to spend here and get back into my regular blogging pattern. I really have missed it!

Render

Maybe it's my dads history in Architecture or maybe just my artsy side but I have such a weakness for renderings. Something about the soft lines and happy colors. I love this one by Staul Steinberg, possibly an old cover of The New Yorker?

Flying fashion

I know I've touched on the subject before but as I'm sitting here, waiting to board a plane I am just shocked at the things people where when flying. I was thinking, how awesome of a job would it be to travel all the time and blog about peoples flying fashion (or lack of)? Now, I'd expect to get paid for this job, I'd rank which airports have the the best and worst dressed passengers. Quirkiest? Portland maybe. Sloppiest? likely Alaska. Most fashionable? that I'd like to find out! My guess would be LAX or JFK. Now, internationally? That'd be a whole other spectrum. See? It'd be fun, and interesting.

The highlights of todays flying (so far) have been the very pretty girl wearing a red sweater dress that just covered the butt with a pair of opaque, black tights with stars on them and black stilettos. She was so pretty but why the look at me outfit. It just looked skanky to me.
I think the cake topper though was Ms. Crulle DeVille herself. Yes, a woman wearing a knee length DALMATION print coat, black boots and an incredibly obnoxious fascinator. Her daughter was also wearing dalmation print outfit, hot pink, furry boots, and carrying a dalmation print bag. It's like I walked into a Disney movie instead of the bathroom.

That being said, I've seen lots of girls wearing adorable boots (black, brown, tan, lace up, buckles, zippers, all cute!), flowy tunics, blazers, and skinny jeans. Guess some people still know how to dress when appearing around more people than they see on any other given day.
As for me? I'm in the most casual flying outfit I've worn in years. Light colored skinny jeans, Brown riding boots, and an off the top Bruins sweatshirt.

Happy New Year!

I know, I know, I haven't been around in pretty much forever. Well, as one of my New Years Resolutions I am going to get back into my blogging. I've missed it and it's something I need to make the time for again. I know resolutions often get forgotten or neglected but I think its a good idea to make them. It makes you think and reflect about things you'd like to change or improve upon. That being said, here's a few more of my resolutions for 2012;
1. Spend less time on the internet and more time with the people I love. I know this is a little contradictory with the whole blog more thing.
2. Eat healthier and get back into yoga
3. Don't take what I have for granted

What are your resolutions?

Fashion Friday: Handbags

I'm on the hunt for a new purse. Fun, right? Unfortunately  I'm incredibly picky (I've been using the same purse for 3 years now).
I'd like something designer, but not Coach, Dooney & Bourke or Louis Vuitton. I'm also not made of money. I'm loving all of these though (let's ignore prices).

Come fly with me

As I get ready to take a couple more flights this year I've been thinking more about flying/ travel outfits. If you know me, you know I dress up for life. I don't do sweats or lounge clothes in public. I like to be dressed up and preferably in dresses. That being said, flying is no exception. I figure while flying you're seeing more people than you probably see on a regular basis. You should look nice! I typically wear comfy, nice jeans and a nice top with a sweater and a pashmina to double as a blanket. Here's a couple looks I'm currently liking for travel:

(This one above is actually perfect for my mom. She'd look adorable in it)

Map it out

Maps have been popping up on decor blogs a lot lately and I have to say, I love the trend. I've always loved maps (related to my love of travel? likely.). Whether they're world, state, city, or subway maps the clean lines and simple colors appeal to me. Here's a couple of my favorites from Pinterest:

I especially love that bathroom one. What a fun, unexpected place for a map, especially paired with the funky shower curtain.

Shipping up to Boston

Sometimes I think I must have gypsy blood because there's little I love more than traveling. I live for my vacations.
Currently I'm dying to go to Boston to catch a Bruins (and Red Sox) game and because I'm certain I'd love it there.
Doesn't it look like somewhere I'd love?

One Day

I started reading this book on a recent flight I was on. I haven't finished it yet but so far, I love it. It had me cracking up and I already love the characters. Can't wait to finish it then see the movie (which of course will never be as good as the book).
